Several common hip problems present in early adulthood and lead to degenerative hip arthritis. At Roseville Orthopedics, we are dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of these problems, with the understanding that if detected early enough, many hip problems can be corrected before they potentially lead to arthritis and joint replacement.

Femoro-Acetabular Impingement, also known as Hip Impingement, is a painful condition which can be considered a cause of common hip arthritis. When either the femoral head is not perfectly round, or the hip socket is not formed properly, this can lead to increased contact pressure at the joint. This frequently results in labral tears and eventually degenerative arthritis of the hip. Groin pain and pain with hip flexion-internal rotation are common signs.
With help from our primary care colleagues, early detection can allow the patient more options for hip preservation rather than living with stiff, painful hips until eventually undergoing joint replacement.
Often Misdiagnosed as groin or muscle pull, treatment for impingement starts with early recognition of the disease rather than prolonged physical therapy, which is not usually helpful for the mechanical problem.
Depending upon age and the severity of the impingement, conservative or operative care is chosen.
Operative care consists of arthroscopy, minimally invasive open procedures, and surgical hip dislocations; all tailored to the needs of the patient and expected goals of the surgery. These are performed by Drs. Rafael Neiman, MD and Kevin Luong, MD
